Its May time and apart from all the beautiful springtime weddings we are attending with our bars and wonderful marquees we have attended the annual Portsmouth dragon boat festival on Sunday 15th May organised by the Portsmouth & Southsea and Southsea Castle Rotary clubs. The event consists of a number of heats between teams to determine their fastest times and is held at 1000 Lakeside, North Harbour. Each team will initially run three heats and their fastest time is used to determine whether they go forward into the finals. The finalists fight it out to determine an overall winner, runner up and third place, all of whom receive trophies for their efforts.
The racing takes place to raise money for various charities each year, and each team had their own charity that was close to their hearts.
The Rotary clubs chosen charities for 2016 were Enable Ability, which helps care for disabled people, and Fitzroy, a national charity that helps people with learning disabilities.
The day was fun filled and the weather was fantastic! We attended the event again this year with our mobile bar inside our 6m x 12m marquee alongside food outlets, stalls and fun activities for the whole family. The event was packed out with spectators and 23 teams of rowers all ready to take home a medal!. We met some great people at the bar and saw some pretty awesome and imaginative costumes all for a great cause. We love doing this event and would like to invite everyone to join us next year for a brilliant day! We will post next years date as soon as we have the information, but here is the facebook link www.facebook.com/PortsmouthDragonBoatFestival2013
The winners were the Whiteley Warriors so a huge congratulations to them and all the other teams that took part, you should all be proud of yourselves!
So for us it’s time to look forward to all the weddings and parties we are attending in the rest of May!
